In April, voters chose the Reidland Middle and Intermediate Schools Band and Choir Director as the Teacher of the Month. (Read more about Mr. Sullivan's Teacher of the Month award here.) All 10 Teachers of the Month were then part of the first Teacher of the Year contest which just concluded. Mr. Sullivan earned nearly 1/3 of the vote. His popularity was definitely on display today as the award entourage was treated to an impromptu performance by his students.
Knowing this was a shock, I asked what went through his mind when he saw our group. He responded: “I’m just very overwhelmed and overjoyed with the amount of support I’ve received since I’ve been here at Reidland.”
And his prize money is already reserved. “Well, I’m sure [the students] want me to spend it on candy! But I will be buying some resource books…I’m just giving it back to the kids. That’s what it’s all about.”
