A Kansas man has been arrested on several charges, including assault, after fleeing from authorities in Lyon County late Thursday night.

The Lyon County Sheriff's Office said 27-year-old Uriah R. Roe of Overland Park, KS assaulted his mother repeatedly while she was driving in Lyon County on I-24. She stopped at a business at Exit 45 off KY 293 to go to the restroom around 11:30 Thursday night.

While in the store, Roe's mother reportedly sought assistance from the clerk after he saw her injured nose and mouth. The clerk called 9-1-1. Roe entered the store and was said to be irate and menacing before fleeing on foot. His mother then fled the area in her vehicle.

A deputy initially made contact with Roe on KY 293. When he attempted to detain him, he reportedly resisted arrest and fled on foot. A shepherd mix dog, which accompanied Roe, bit both Roe and the deputy, causing injuries. The dog was shot by a deputy and fled from the scene. Roe was able to flee on foot.

Deputies searched for Roe until after 4 am. Multiple 9-1-1 calls were received early this morning beginning about 6:45 am, reporting Roe walking on KY 818 South and going up to homes in the 1000 block.

The Sheriff’s Office said they received a call just before 8:30 am that Roe and a dog were seen on I-24 near the 47 mile marker. Roe was then found and detained without further incident by Kentucky State Police Troopers. Roe declined medical treatment. The dog was found to be injured and was turned over to the dog warden who transported it to a veterinarian.

Roe was charged with assault, fleeing, resisting arrest and harboring a vicious animal.
