An insurance agency owner has been arrested and accused of defrauding a Graves County church.

The Graves County Sheriff’s Office said that 59-year-old Glen David Ramey of Murray was arrested at his business on Wednesday morning. Ramey, the owner of David Ramey Insurance Company in Murray, is accused of taking over $10,000 from the church over the last four years to pay for insurance policies that would have given them property and liability coverage. Investigators said that those policies were not purchased, leaving the church without insurance.

Detectives learned of the alleged misuse of the funds paid to Ramey’s agency and contacted the Kentucky Department of Insurance. State investigators assisted Graves County detectives in taking Ramey into custody just before 11 a.m. He was taken back to the Graves County Restricted Custody Center before being transported to an out-of-county detention facility.

Ramey is charged with fraudulent insurance acts - $10,000 or more, theft by failure to make required disposition of property over $10,000. The case remains under investigation.
