Ballard County has been awarded a $1.3 million grant from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to replace the Brooking Road Bridge, which collapsed in March of 2021 due to flash flooding.
The grant, the largest single project FEMA has ever funded in Ballard County, will facilitate the construction of a new 130'x20' single span concrete bridge.
The collapse of the Brooking Road Bridge in 2021 caused significant inconvenience and disruption to the residents of Ballard County, particularly the Hinkleville Community.
"We are thrilled to announce the receipt of this FEMA grant, which will enable us to replace the Brooking Road Bridge and enhance the safety and connectivity of our community," said Ballard County Judge-Executive Todd Cooper.
"The new bridge will not only improve transportation access but also contribute to the overall resilience of our infrastructure against future flooding events."
Ballard Fiscal Court will promptly put the project out for bid to select a qualified contractor for the construction. The bidding process will begin immediately to expedite the commencement of construction and minimize any further inconvenience to residents.
The procurement of a contractor is expected to begin on June 4th, 2024 and the Fiscal Court is expecting to accept a bid on July 2nd, 2024 for the construction.
