On Friday, Massac County officials announced than an arrest has been made in a 42-year-old local homicide case.

At a news conference at the Massac County courthouse, State's Attorney Josh Stratmeyer charged an Owensboro man with the 1984 murder of 26-year-old Lisa Ann Carnes.

Stratmeyer said a Massac County Grand Jury returned a five-count indictment charging 76-year-old George Bradfield with five counts of murder.

The state's attorney said Bradfield was believed to be working in Joppa at the time of Carnes' death.

After the indictments, Bradfield was arrested and taken to the Daviess County Jail in Owensboro.

Officials said that new forensic technology made it possible for the case to be solved, but they did not give details.

According to FBI records, Carnes’ body was discovered on March 30, 1984, in a rural field south of Macedonia Church Road and east of US 45 in western Massac County. An autopsy determined that Carnes died from bleeding caused by a gunshot wound to the chest.
