The Murray State Racers won for a fourth time in five games to start the 2025-26 season Saturday when they ran past the Little Rock Trojans 00-00 at the CFSB Center in Murray, Kentucky.
The Racers (4-1) now prepare for three games (Nov. 23-25) Thanksgiving week at the Cayman Islands Classic against Middle Tennessee, McNeese and George Washington.On a night where every one of MSU's 11 that stepped on the floor scored, the Racers were led by Mason Miller and Brayden Shorter who each scored 16 points, while Javon Jackson added 13 as the trio combined to hit 11 of MSU's 14 three-point baskets in the game.
The Racers hit the Trojans with a 14-0 run that pushed the game into the Racers favor for good with 5:35 left in the first half and Jackson's 3-pointer at 41 seconds gave the Racers a 43-23 lead at the intermission.
MSU busted the game wide open when they started the second half with an 18-8 run that featured three plays in which MSU forced the Trojans into a turnover three times and all resulted in 3-pointers from Layne Taylor, Miller and Dylan Anderson. The MSU lead was 61-31 with 14:52 left.
Game Notes
- Mason Miller's first half produced an impressive stat line of 11:41 on the floor, 3-6FG, 2-3 3PT, 2-2FT for 10 points with three rebounds.
- He finished the day 5-9 from the field with 4-6 from the 3-point line.
- Brayden Shorter scored his first two 2-point field goals in the game today and went 6-11 from the field and 4-9 from the 3-point line.
- After having the rare 50/40/80 game against Nichols, the Racers nearly did it again today against Little Rock.
- They shot 51 percent from the field and 47 percent from the 3-point line, but didn't reach 80 percent from the free throw line, but 74 percent isn't bad at all.
- MSU scored 21 points off of 14 Little Rock turnovers.
- After giving up 20 turnovers against Nicholls, the Racers cut that to nine today against an equally talented defensive unit in Little Rock.
- In the first five games of the season, the Racers have collected 40 steals.
- The Racers lead the MVC with 17.60 assists per game and are third in assist/turnover ratio at 1.40.
