Paducah Chiefs start summer season Friday at Brooks Stadium

Paducah Chiefs baseball returns to Brooks Stadium on Friday. The Chiefs are once again members of the six-team Ohio Valley League, a summer collegiate league using wooden bats.

They'll play a 40-game schedule through July and hold playoffs for a league championship. Last year the Chiefs finished in second place behind the Full Count Rhythm with a record of 21-15.

Other teams this year are located in Fulton, Hopkinsville, Madisonville and Henderson, Kentucky, as well as Hendersonville, Tennessee.

This season's Chiefs squad has a pronounced local flavor, with several players hailing from western Kentucky:

Brett Haas is a Paducah native and a graduate of St. Mary High School.  He is currently attending Northeast Mississippi Community College. 

Josh Penrod and Kendrick Dunning are graduates of McCracken County High School. They'll both be attending John A. Logan College in the fall.

Seth Harris is from Paducah, and plays for Western Illinois University.

Maddox Cope is from Benton and a graduate of Marshall County High School and currently attending Shawnee Community College.

Matthew Henderson also attended Marshall County High School and is also at Shawnee Community College. 

Carson Reed is from Mayfield and attends Vincennes University. 

Austin Spears is from Lyon County and attends Northeast Mississippi Community College.

Caysen Mitchell is from Bardwell and attended Carlisle County High School. He is currently at Brescia University.  

Josh Gilbert is from Metropolis, attending Rend Lake College.

Once again this season, you can hear the Chiefs home and away games on 99.5 The Fan with new Chiefs voice Aidan DeFrance.

Games will begin at 6:30, except on Sunday when they'll start at 6 pm. Their game schedule is available at the Paducah Chiefs Facebook page.
