The McCracken County Mustangs returned home from Lexington as baseball state runner-up following a 4-1 loss to Pleasure Ridge Park in the title game on Saturday.
It's the third time in 10 seasons the Mustangs played for a state championship, coming away with the runner-up trophy all three times. Their previous title game appearances came in 2019 and 2021.
It was the second time this season the Mustangs and Panthers had met on the diamond. The Mustangs won the regular season meeting 7-5 in early March. This time however the Panthers only gave up three hits to the Mustangs with the lone McCracken County run coming on a sacrifice fly from Miller Green in the sixth inning.
The Mustangs finish their season at 34-10. They'll lose 15 seniors from this year's squad, but will no doubt be seen as a favorite to win the region and get another run at a state championship next season.
In other end-of-season news, McCracken's Miller Green was named Kentucky's Mr. Baseball for 2024. Green and Ross Aldridge made the all-state first team, and Caleb Ehling was named to the second team.
Green, Kaden Kern and Kendrick Dunning made the all-state tournament team.
