Eli Brown scored early and often for Paducah Tilghman as the Blue Tornado beat Carlisle County 75-45 in Monday night's quarterfinals of the boys 1st Region Tournament.
Brown hit four 3-pointers and scored 18 points in the first half to give Tilghman a 41-19 halftime cushion. Carlisle County junior guard Garrett Hayden led the Comets with 11 points. Senior forward Blake Elder chipped in with 10 in the final game of his high school career.
Meanwhile, it was a tale of two halves in Murray’s 61-46 win over Mayfield in Monday night's second quarterfinal game.
The first half was a very slow, controlled pace maintained by Mayfield, as the Cardinals led by as many as nine points in the first half. But the Tigers took control in the second half, outscoring Mayfield 22-9 in the third quarter and 42-25 overall in the second half to cruise to the comfortable win.
Mayfield senior guard Colby Kennemore was the story of the first half, leading all scorers at halftime with nine points on a couple of three-pointers and three free throws. But it was Murray sophomore guard Grant Whitaker who singlehandedly took control in the second half, scoring 21 points after halftime for a game high 29 points.
Charqwan McCallister finished with 16 points for Murray and Trey Boggess tossed in 8 points. Kennemore finished with 15 points for Mayfield and DeAngelo Brooks chimed in with 14 points.
Paducah Tilghman and Murray will meet in the semifinals Friday at 5:30 pm at the CFSB Center in Murray.
