Yelloh, the food delivery company formerly known as Schwan’s, announced Monday that it will cease operations.

After 72 years, the iconic yellow and red trucks will soon cease delivering the ready-to-heat meals, pizza, and ice cream the company is known for. The company got its start in 1952 when Marvin Schwan started delivering frozen treats to his Marshall, Minnesota neighbors using a 1940 Dodge panel van.

The company cited "insurmountable challenges" including competitive pressures, consumer lifestyles, pandemic-driven staffing shortages and supply chain disruptions.

In an effort to revamp operations as food delivery options like Doordash and Hello Fresh proliferated, Schwan’s rebranded as Yelloh in 2022. The next year Yelloh shuttered 90 delivery centers and laid off 750 employees, according to Nebraska Public Media.

The Schwan family had previously sold 80 percent of the company to South Korea's largest food manufacturer for $1.8 billion, but kept all of the original home delivery service.

The company has about 1,100 employees. Yelloh delivered nationwide via UPS and operated trucks in 18 states: Texas, South Dakota, Minnesota, Iowa, Missouri, Wisconsin, Illinois, Michigan, Indiana, Kentucky, Ohio, West Virginia, Pennsylvania, New York, Maryland, Vermont and Maine.

The last day products may be purchased from Yelloh trucks will be Nov. 8.
