Contestants rolled up their entries for the title of biggest watermelon and pumpkin in the state.
This year’s largest pumpkin weighed in at 1,133 pounds. It was grown by Dwight Slone of Floyd County.
It still came in more than 100 pounds short of last year's winner, which tipped the scales at 1,270 pounds.
Slone has been competing since 2009, but was unable to bring an entry last year. He said the activity is his stress reliever, and he uses the pumpkins to raise funds for local charities.
Meanwhile, the largest watermelon weighed in at 233 pounds. It came from Frank Mudd in Meade County.
It's Mr. Mudd's 23rd entry at the fair. He said that over the years he has grown ten melons weighing more than 300 pounds.
