Train derails southwest of Cape Girardeau

A train derailed in the wee hours of Friday morning in Scott County, Missouri, southwest of Cape Girardeau.

According to KFVS, the derailment occurred at about 1:40 a.m. on Friday near Perkins. Delta Fire Protection District posted that they got the call and located approximately 18 railcars off the tracks near Highway P near County Road 266. 

Scott County, Missouri Sheriff Wes Drury told KFVS that none of the cars contained hazardous materials.

Cleanup is underway but will take time. The Missouri Department of Transportation has set up barricades at the scene and has established detours for traffic.
