At the Kentucky State Fair this week, an Adair County man was crowned the state's champion pumpkin grower.
Scott Bayuk's pumpkin weighed in at 1,270 pounds, a comfortable margin over the runner up of 851 pounds.
In the watermelon division, Joseph Miller of Thompkinsville brought in the biggest melon at 276 pounds.
For comparison, the U.S. record pumpkin was grown last year in Anoka, Minnesota at 2,560 pounds; the U.S. record watermelon was grown in 2013 in Sevierville, TN, weighing 350 pounds.
