Chinese internet shopping platform Temu has responded to the lawsuit filed by Kentucky’s attorney general.
On July 17, Attorney General Russell Coleman filed suit accusing Temu of stealing data from Kentuckians, allowing access of that data to the Chinese Communist government, and stealing intellecutal property from Kentucky brands including Churchill Downs and Buffalo Trace Distillery.
A Temu a spokesperson with the platform told WBKO in Bowling Green, in part:
The allegations in the Kentucky Attorney General’s lawsuit are based on misinformation circulated online, primarily from a short-seller, and are totally unfounded. We categorically deny the claims and will defend ourselves vigorously... We are confident that our actions and contributions to the community will speak for themselves over time.
Temu has risen in popularity to become the most-downloaded mobile app in the U.S. in 2023.

Temu has experienced legal friction around the globe. Last December the website was suspended in Viet Nam after their government raised concerns about the authenticity of Temu’s extremely cheap products and their impact on Vietnamese manufacturers.
Earlier in 2024, the European Union launched an investigation over suspicions that Temu was failing to prevent the sale of illegal products in the 27-nation bloc.
