Missouri governor Mike Parson has requested federal disaster assistance for the St. Louis region due to historic flooding.

On Thursday the governor asked President Joe Biden to issue a major disaster declaration for the city of St. Louis, as well as St. Louis, St. Charles and Montgomery counties.

“Our state and local teams have been working around the clock to assist Missourians in the St. Louis region and provide resources,” Governor Parson said. “Today, we are requesting a federal major disaster declaration in order to provide further aid to support the region’s recovery. We appreciate our SEMA team, first responders, and community partners who continue helping the St. Louis region move forward from this disaster.”

More than 750 homes in the affected area have been assessed to have major damage, along with 131 businesses for more than $35 million in estimated damages.
