Louisville’s police chief has been placed on leave over her handling of a sexual harassment allegation involving officers.

The surprise announcement of Chief Jacquelyn Gwinn-Villaroel’s suspension came Wednesday night.

It's been less than a year since Gwinn-Villaroel became the first Black woman to lead the department in a full-time position.

Mayor Craig Greenberg says the chief was not directly involved in the harassment incident.

But he says he is concerned with the way she handled the allegation once it was reported to her.

Louisville’s police department has had three full-time chiefs and three interim chiefs since 2020.
