Kentucky Auditor Allison Ball Tuesday updated the General Assembly on her comprehensive examination of the Kentucky Department of Education as required by House Bill 825, which was unanimously passed by the General Assembly and became law without the Governor's signature.

Ball indicated Kentucky children deserved to receive a quality education, but unfortunately were falling behind all across the Commonwealth.

Alarmingly, according to the Kentucky Department of Education, less than half of all Kentucky's elementary, middle, and high school students are proficient in reading, mathematics, science, and social studies.

The Auditor will also examine the Kentucky School for the Deaf, Kentucky School for the Blind, and the department operated area technology centers.

The examination includes reviewing academic standards, statewide accountability and assessments, diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives, preschools, and model curriculum to identify areas of operation lacking efficiency and effectiveness.

The final report will be made available to the General Assembly on July 1, 2025.
