Highway data gathered by a national insurance company lists I-24 as one of the ten most dangerous interstates in America.

The Assurance insurance company recently used numbers from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration to compile a list of interstates with the highest number of fatal crashes per 100 miles.

Among the top ten, I-24 came in at number 5 in the country. The roadway that runs through Illinois, Kentucky and Tennessee experiences 18.3 fatal crashes per 100 miles, according to the NHTSA.

The most dangerous interstate as far as fatalities is I-4 in Florida. The road that connects Tampa and Orlando averages 34 fatal crashes per 100 miles.

The next three most dangerous interstates are located in Texas. I-35E from Dallas to Fort Worth has 27.9 fatal crashes per 100 miles, then I-45 from Dallas to Galveston with 23.5, and I-30 from Arkansas to Dallas with 23.5.

Overall, Texas is considered the third-most dangerous state for interstate drivers, behind California and Florida. Tennessee ranks 8th; Missouri 17th; Kentucky as a whole is 22nd, and Illinois 27th.

The report also drills down to the most dangerous interstate within each state. In Kentucky, I-65 gets the nod with an average of 1.53 fatal crashes per every 10 miles. That's compared to places like I-94 in Illinois with 4.23, and New Jersey's I-76 with 6.58 fatal crashes every 10 miles.
