Congressman James Comer has indicated he is mulling a run to be Kentucky's next Governor.

Comer, who is currently the Chair of the House Oversight Committee, confirmed to West Kentucky Star that he is giving some serious thought to giving up that seat to come home to Frankfort. Comer said, "I don't think it's any secret to people that know me, know that I would... you know, my heart is in Kentucky."  Adding that, "Kentucky is going to be in need of a new leader. I feel like I could fill that void."

The first mention of the run came in an interview on Thursday with Mario Anderson at Spectrum News 1 in Louisville. Comer told Anderson that he will run for Congress again because he feels he is still effective in that role. He noted that Governor Beshear is term-limited and said that term limits in Washington would go a long way to fixing a system that many feel is broken.  Comer said that he didn't believe the founders intended for citizen legislators to spend decades in Washington, saying, "I've been a very vocal proponent and advocate for term limits, so I don't plan on... I don't plan on being in Congress as long as Hal Rogers, I'll put it like that."

Rogers, the representative from Kentucky's 5th Congressional District, is the longest-serving member in the U.S. House. He was first elected in 1981 and was the Chair of the powerful House Appropriations Committee for five years.

Comer, meanwhile, said that a decision on a run for Governor wouldn't come for another year or so. He also alluded to another big race coming to Kentucky. Speculation continues that Senator Mitch McConnell might not seek reelection after this term. Comer was clear that he had no interest in that seat.

For now, Comer and the House Oversight Committee have hearings planned during February to discuss sanctuary city policies with mayors of some of the nation's largest cities.

Congressman Comer's book, "All the President's Money", is on the New York Times Bestseller List and is available through Amazon and other retailers.
