This week the Christian County Public Schools board approved $90 million in cuts to previous design plans for a new consolidated high school for over 2000 Hopkinsville and Christian County High School students.
Last July the board had a budget of $130 million for the project, but the two bids received were both in the neighborhood of $200 million.
Original plans for a nearly 380,000 square foot facility has been reduced to less than 310,000 square feet, comprised of four two-story wings instead of five.
If financially necessary, construction of a proposed new gymnasium could be delayed, and Phase 1 of the project could be trimmed to 282,000 square feet.
Additional phases would include new athletic fields, a performing arts center, and the ability to further expand the school itself if needed to accomodate up to 2900 students later.
The construction planning firm hired for the project hopes to put out bid packets next week for bids to be received in June. If bids are accepted, work could begin on the new school this year and take three years to complete.
