Police say human remains found last weekend in the Ohio River near Evansville are those of a Louisville man who drowned in January while trying to rescue a woman.

The Newburgh Police Department said Wednesday the remains were identified as those of 34-year-old Adam L. Thomas.

The Evansville Courier & Press reported his remains were found near Newburgh Old Lock & Dam, about 90 miles downstream from where he was last seen Jan. 13 while trying to rescue a woman who jumped into the Ohio River near the area of Louisville’s Historic Wharf.
