More than 300,000 adult Kentuckians do not have a high school diploma or GED.

Statistics show adults who lack a high school diploma are two times more likely to be unemployed and three times more likely to live in poverty.

Governor Beshear signed a proclamation declaring this to be "Adult Education and Family Literacy Week" in Kentucky.

Lt. Governor Jacqueline Coleman, who is also Education Secretary, says nearly 40% of Kentucky's jobs require some level of post-secondary education or training.
