Governor Andy Beshear’s official portrait was unveiled at the Kentucky State Capitol on Thursday.
Governor Beshear’s office said it was painted by Melanie Harding Bates. It will be on display at the Capitol until it is eventually transferred to the Kentucky Hall of Governors at the Kentucky Center for History in downtown Frankfort.
Bates has been a commissioned portrait artist for over 30 years. Bates resides in Louisville with her husband and is a member of several artists’ organizations.
The portrait was paid for with private funds.
