One person was confirmed dead and multiple people were hurt after a tornado touched down Friday morning in Washington County southwest of Lexington.

Emergency crews responded to multiple calls at Long Run Road. The sheriff’s office said the damage was severe and injuries span throughout the county.

The National Weather Service Office in Louisville warned of a radar-indicated tornado just before 7 a.m.

The county's sheriff's office confirmed the death and multiple injuries in a Facebook post at 8:48 a.m., about two hours after the twister struck the area located about 50 miles southwest of Lexington.

A damage survey performed midday Friday by the National Weather Service revealed a preliminary tornado strength of at least EF1.
