An earthquake shook east Tennessee on Saturday morning that was felt in four states.
The U.S. Geological Survey initially measured the quake at 4.1 on the Richter Scale. It was centered near Greenback, Tennessee at 8:05 a.m..
People reported shaking in Chattanooga and across three other states, including Asheville, North Carolina and Greenville, South Carolina to the east, and even some 120 miles away in Atlanta to the south and Knoxville to the north.
Residents reported feeling the ground shaking for 15 to 30 seconds.
The quake occurred in the center of what is known as the East Tennessee Seismic Zone. While not as active as the New Madrid zone, it can be a source of sizable tremors, as many as two or three per year.
The strongest earthquake ever recorded in East Tennessee was a 4.7-magnitude in 1973, with an epicenter in Alcoa.
Another East Coast seismic zone is located on the coast of South Carolina around Charleston.
No injuries or damage was reported. The USGS said the chance for comparable aftershocks is low.
