The National Weather Service in Paducah is still calling for beneficial rains to move into the region later tonight, with a slight risk fo severe storms Sunday afternoon and evening.
Most local areas -- many now listed as suffering from abnormally dry soil conditions -- could expect a half-inch to an inch total precipitation. Rainfall totals could be higher along and south of the Kentucky-Tennessee line.
Strong to severe thunderstorms remain possible on Sunday, focused primarily during the afternoon and early evening hours. If severe storms develop, large hail and damaging winds appear to be the main concerns. However, rain on Sunday morning could lessen the overall severe threat later.
There is only a marginal risk that any flooding could occur, and only in the locations of the heaviest storm activity.
After the rain moves out, Monday will be cooler in the 70s, accentuated by north winds. Temps return to the 80s by Tuesday.
