The state of Kentucky is looking for volunteers in several western Kentucky counties to review cases for children entering the state's foster care system.

According to the Administrative Office of the Courts in Kentucky, the Citizens Foster Care Review Board is asking for volunteers in 54 counties, including Caldwell, Calloway, Fulton, Hickman, Livingston, Marshall, McCracken and Trigg.

Each year, thousands of children in Kentucky are removed from their homes for various reasons and enter the foster care or out-of-home care systems.

In Kentucky, Citizen Foster Care Review Board volunteers review each child's case and make recommendations to the courts and Health and Family Services helping the children be placed in safe, permanent homes as quickly as possible.

Volunteers can review cases one day per month on a virtual basis.

Potential volunteers undergo a background check and complete six hours of Zoom classroom time and independent learning.
