Veterans Day will be observed today with ceremonies and parades across the region.

In Paducah, sunrise reveille began shortly after 6 a.m. at the corner of Broadway and Water Street, including the playing of reveille and raising of the flag at 6:29. Broadway is closed from the gazebo to the floodwall, and the AJC Foundation will serve free meals to veterans there.

The opening ceremony at 10 a.m. will be held at Dolly McNutt Plaza at the Korean War monument.

The Veterans Day parade will begin at 11 a.m. at 6th and Washington, along 6th Street then right on Broadway toward the riverfront.

A Light to Unite ceremony will take place outside the McCracken County Courthouse on Friday afternoon. Light to Unite is a national recognition of the Purple Heart and its recipients. The ceremony will be at the Veteran's Memorial at the courthouse and will begin at 4:30 p.m. Everyone is invited.

Murray's parade will actually be held on Saturday this year, with hopes that more people are able to attend and participate. It begins at 11 a.m. at Fith and Poplar, and heads down Main Street to the Veterans Memorial at Chestnut Park.

Murray's Veterans Day service will still happen on Friday at 11 a.m. at the American Legion Post 73 headquarters on Bee Creek Drive.

VFW Post 6291 will hold a barbecue fundraiser Friday at its headquarters on South Twelfth Street.


In Marshall County, the annual Veterans Day program will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at the Veterans Honor Plaza at Mike Miller Park in Draffenville with featured music and a speaker. 


In Cadiz, their first Veterans Day parade in three years will take place at 11 a.m. after lining up at Trigg County Middle School. A memorial service will be held after the parade ends at West Cadiz Park.


Metropolis American Legion Post 306 will hold its annual service on Friday at 11 a.m. at Veterans Memorial Park next to the Metropolis Public Library. The library will host a breakfast for veterans from 9-10:45 a.m. in the basement.


In Vienna, the Daughters of the American Revolution will host its annual Veterans Day service on Friday at 11 a.m. on the grounds of the Vienna Carnegie Library.
