WEDNESDAY:
US 51 is still closed in Clinton after the partial collapse of a brick building blocked the roadway on Sunday morning, and the building's demolition is yet to happen.

The Hickman County Times is reporting this morning that the owner of the damaged building will personally hire a contractor to do the demolition.

Meanwhile, there is no official detour for US 51 in downtown Clinton. KYTC's latest post on Tuesday said no detour is currently in place. Motorists are advised to use caution and avoid the area if possible.

TUESDAY:
A second collapse of the wall of a vacant building in downtown Clinton has another street closed.

According to Hickman County Emergency Management, KY 58/W. Clay Street is blocked between US 51 and KY 123.

After the center third of the east wall of the building came down on Saturday night, another larger section of the same wall fell on Monday night, taking down the remaining part of the east wall and extending the collapse to the front corner of the structure. With the integrity of the entire south wall now in question, Clay Street was closed as a precaution until a structural engineer could evaluate the situation.

US 51 is still blocked between KY 58 and KY 1826/Depot Street.

The building was expected to be torn down on Monday, but The Hickman County Times reported that the demolition was delayed by a paperwork issue. They reported that once the papers are signed by the property owner, demolition can proceed.

City officials hope the issues can be resolved and demolition can resume Tuesday.

Hickman County Emergency Management Director Justin D. Jackson said that a designated area has been set aside on the courthouse lawn where people can safely watch the demolition.

The century-old brick building had once been a grocery store and more recently a pharmacy.
