Two dead, five injured in southern Illinois shooting

A shooting early Sunday morning in Mt. Vernon has left two people dead and five injured.

KFVS reports that Mt. Vernon Police were called to the 600 block of South 15th Street just before 1:00 am for multiple shooting reports.

First responders said they found several people at the scene had been shot and were in need of hospitalization.

Police said two victims had died and five were currently being treated.

Names of victims have not yet been released and the investigation into the shooting is continuing.
