The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet plans to place two traffic signals into flashing mode along Kentucky Avenue in downtown Paducah starting Tuesday.

The signals will flash yellow for caution for drivers traveling along Kentucky Avenue, and flash red to require stops for traffic crossing on 5th Street and 6th Streets.

Traffic at the flashing signals will be studied to determine how the intersections will function without a signal, and be replaced with physical yield and stop signs. Engineers will make spot checks to determine if drivers crossing Kentucky have to wait too long to proceed.

The city made similar moves on Broadway in 2020, when signals were replaced by 4-way stop signs at 5th, 6th and 7th Streets.
