The second total eclipse in seven years occured just after 2 pm Monday.
Skies went dark for about a three minute period as the moon covered the sun in the tri-state area.
It took one hour and 40 minutes for the moon's shadow to race more than 4,000 miles across the US continent.
It will be another 21 years before the U.S. sees another total solar eclipse on this scale.
