Three dead after vehicle crashes into Mississippi River in Hickman County

Three people died after a single-car accident at the Ingram Barge facility on the Mississippi riverfront at Columbus on Saturday night.

The Hickman County Sheriff’s Office said that Ingram employees heard the collision and called dispatch after finding what they believed to be a car that hit their ramp and went into the river. 

A diver with McCracken County Emergency Management dove down to the vehicle and hooked it up to a wrecker to be pulled out. Once the vehicle was out of the water, it was determined that there were three occupants inside. 

The cause of the crash is still under investigation at this time. Identities of the occupants were not immediately released pending notification of next of kin.
