Southeast Missouri received the highest wind gusts as a strong cold front pushed slowly through the region on Monday.

The National Weather Service received a report that a roof was blown off of a barn in New Madrid County Monday morning. Wind gusts by mid-afternoon had already been clocked at 51 miles per hour in Butler County and 46 mph near Cape Girardeau.

In southern Illinois, winds of 43 mph were measured in Cairo. At nearby Horseshoe Lake, it was discovered that an eagle's nest was blown out of the top of a tree and two eaglets died.

Gusts of 48 mph were recorded in Marion and Carbondale. In western Kentucky, gusts over 40 mph were common in McCracken County, Fulton and Hickman.

The strong winds brought down large tree branches, and hundreds of power outages were reported across the region. Most were quickly restored.

By late Monday night, Barkley Field had received about 1.5 inches of rain.
