Southside Walmart evacuated briefly after phone threat

Paducah's Southside Walmart was evacuated briefly on Friday evening because of an apparent threat on the telephone about weapons. At about the same time, a similar situation occurred in southern Illinois.

According to Paducah Police, a call came in from an unknown number around 5:50 p.m. regarding an alleged threat to bring weapons into the store.

The Southside Walmart was evacuated for a short period of time, but reopened soon after police determined there was no active threat to the public.

A similar situation also occurred Friday night at the West City Walmart in Benton, Illinois. That store remained closed for the night to conduct an investigation, but was expected to reopen on Saturday.
