Twenty-four western Kentucky counties affected by the December storms are now eligible for low-interest loans from the US Department of Agriculture to repair damage to property and crops.

The loans offered by the USDA can help producers repair or replace physical property essential to their agricultural operation, including livestock losses.

Other examples include farm buildings, fixtures to real estate, equipment, perennial crops, fruit and nut bearing trees, and harvested or stored crops and hay.

The USDA has designated 24 counties as primary eligibility areas for the loans, including Caldwell, Christian, Graves, Fulton, Hickman, Lyon, and Marshall counties.

Another 29 counties have been designated as contiguous and also eligible, including Calloway, Carlisle, Crittenden, Livingston, McCracken, and Trigg counties.

The deadline to apply for the loans is August 30.
