A Saturday morning crash in Mayfield sent four people to the hospital and blocked US 45.

Mayfield Police said that the crash occurred just after 11:30 a.m. at US 45 and Wayne Drive.

According to their investigation, they believe that a pickup driven by 85-year-old James Poat of Mayfield was attempting to turn left onto US 45 when it collided with an SUV driven by 65-year-old Neal Mathis of Melber. The crash severely damaged both vehicles and blocked US 45 until tow trucks could clear the scene.

Poat and his wife, 82-year-old Patsy Poat, along with Mathis and his wife, 60-year-old Karen Mathis were all taken to Jackson Purchase Medical Center with what were believed to be minor injuries.
