The Salvation Army has announced the expansion of its Supportive Services for Veteran Families program to four additional counties in western Kentucky: Caldwell, Crittenden, Livingston and Lyon. Officials said the expansion is part of the ongoing commitment to serve former members of the military who may be at risk of becoming homeless.

The program is designed to offer housing services to very low-income veteran families who may be facing homelessness. It includes housing and health care navigation, emergency financial assistance, and legal services to promote independent living.

The program is already in place in Ballard, Carlisle, Hickman, Fulton, Graves, Calloway, Marshall, Trigg, Christian, Todd, Hopkins and McCracken counties.

Statistics show that 8.4% of Kentucky’s veterans currently live in poverty.

To support the program, The Salvation Army is also seeking landlord partners who have rental property and are interested in providing housing for veterans in need.
