As the school year wraps up, a $1.9 million road project kicks off next week to improve safety at Crittenden County schools.
Contractors expect work will start Tuesday on a center turn lane for US 60 near the entrance of the Crittenden County Middle School and High School complex, as well as two entrances at the Crittenden County Hospital.
The turn lane will extend about a quarter mile to connect with Country Club Drive, where buses turn to access the elementary school about a mile away.
Since 2021, Kentucky has invested $24.5 million to improve highway safety near schools in over 60 highway safety projects across 43 counties.
