The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet has ordered the closure of a bridge on Poyners Chapel Road in Graves County due to the condition of the bridge support structure.
Poyners Chapel Rd is closed at mile point 0.818 at the Little Cypress Branch Bridge southwest of Sedalia.
An inspection of the bridge found issues with the bridge structure. After an analysis of the inspection report, the bridge was ordered closed to all traffic.
The report said, "After review of the condition and analysis or changes in the weight carrying capacity of the subject structure by the bridge preservation analysis staff, this office has determined that the posting level for the following bridge should be as follows: Closed to all vehicles due to condition of the substructure."
The bridge will remain closed until further notice.
KYTC District 1 engineers will assist the county with evaluating the substructure of the Little Cypress Branch Bridge to determine if it can be repaired, or should be replaced.
