A Paducah man is being recognized for his heroic actions after he saved a man trapped in a vehicle submerged in water.
On Friday morning a vehicle drove off I-24 and into a creek near the 10-mile marker. The driver was trapped inside.
After witnessing the accident, Michael Fiers left his vehicle, jumped into the water, and pulled the driver to safety as emergency personnel arrived at the scene.
The victim, Kenneth Smith of Paducah, was taken to a local hospital for treatment.
In a Facebook post, the McCracken County Sheriff's Office praised Fiers for saving the man's life.
"The outcome of this collision could have been drastically different had it not been for the quick thinking and actions of Mr. Fiers. We... would like to publically recognize Mr. Fiers on the job well done," the post read.
