A Paducah man was arrested Tuesday after allegedly firing a stolen gun during an argument then barricading himself in his apartment.

Paducah Police got a "shots fired" report from an apartment complex on Trimble Street just before 11 a.m. Witnesses in the parking lot told officers that 56-year-old Kenneth Pinnegar came out of his apartment and argued with them. Pinnegar is then said to have gone back into his apartment before firing a couple of shots in their direction.

Following the shots, Pinnegar left the scene on foot according to the witnesses. Police searched the area but could not locate him. A search of his apartment is said to have turned up a .22 caliber handgun that had been reported stolen out of Calloway County. Officers said there was also a large cache of ammunition.

Police left the scene, but were called back after Pinnegar was seen returning to his apartment. They came back to serve an arrest warrant, but Pinnegar refused to respond. Officers entered the apartment and found Pinnegar locked in the bathroom. Following more attempts to secure his surrender, pepper balls were fired into the bathroom. Pinnegar was then taken into custody.

Pinnegar was taken to the McCracken County Regional Jail after a trip to Baptist Health due to his level of intoxication.
