Mayfield Independent Schools has named Matt McMain as the new principal of Mayfield High School.
McMain will succeed Billy Edwards, who will be the school district's next superintendent.
McMain comes to Mayfield from Murray High School where he has served as social studies teacher and assistant basketball coach.
He is completing his 13th year of teaching and 17th year of coaching basketball. Prior to Murray, McMain also taught at Murray Middle School, Trigg County High School, and Crittenden County Middle School.
At Murray, he served on the school's Comprehensive School Improvement Plan committee and the School Safety committee.
He has served as mentor to numerous student teachers and practicum students and has been certified in a number of technology-based learning programs through professional development.
Looking ahead, McMain says he plans to build on the successes of outgoing principal Billy Edwards. "My first priority is getting to know the staff, students and Mayfield community. I plan to continue to build on many successful initiatives that are already in place at MHS," said McMain.
"At the forefront is continuing the commitment to college and career readiness and to provide students with avenues to pursue success after their high school experience is over."
