Paducah Police report crimes down for the 6th consecutive year

Paducah Police have released its crime report for 2024 and crime in the city is down by 16 percent overall, marking the sixth straight year there's been a decrease in reported crimes.

Throughout 2024, Paducah saw a 6% decrease in Part One offenses and 20% fewer Part Two crimes. 
The eight Part One categories include: murder, rape, robbery, aggravated assault, breaking and entering, larceny/theft, auto theft and arson. Offenses such as fraud, drugs, vandalism, and minor assaults are among the 22 offenses included under Part Two crimes.

While most Part One crimes remained steady, the most significant changes involved theft.  There were 100 fewer larceny/theft reports and 30 more auto thefts than the previous year.  The Part Two category saw reductions in nearly all types of offenses with assault, fraud, and drug crimes leading the way.  
 
On the roadways throughout our city, there was a 5% decrease in traffic collisions compared to 2023. 

In 2024, there were a total of 1,746 collisions. Of these collisions, four involved a fatality, 289 involved injuries, and 1453 involved property damage. Collisions that involved injuries decreased by 7%.    
 
“In 2024, our officers responded to approximately 50,000 calls for service.  We remain committed to ensuring our residents and visitors feel safe. Our officers put in a tremendous amount of effort to not only hold those who commit crime accountable, but they also are vigilant in preventing crime before it occurs.” Chief Brian Laird said.
