It was announced Thursday that Paducah and Louisville Railway will receive $33.8 million in federal funding.

According to Senator Mitch McConnell’s Office, the funds from the U.S. Department of Transportation will be used for several infrastructure projects along its 280-mile main line between Louisville and Paducah. Projects will include upgrades to signals and tracks, and rehabilitation of five rail bridges in Hardin and Muhlenberg counties.

The funding will also provide a new wheel truing machine.

The grant is part of the Infrastructure for Rebuilding American program, which awards competitive grants for freight and highway projects.

The P&L main rail line connects with four major railroads at Paducah, Madisonville and Louisville, delivering 150,000 carloads of freight each year carrying everything from coal and crushed limestone, to lumber, food and agricultural products.
