Murray State University announced a grant on Tuesday for a nurse training program in partnership with Baptist Health Paducah.
The grant will provide up to $1.5 million for the Nurse Education, Practice, Quality, and Rentention Simulation Education Training Program to be established.
The grant includes $500,000 in funding for 2023-23, with recommendations for future support with similar funding in 2024-25, and 2025-26.
Plans are to use the funding to expand simulation technology in nursing education to address skill gaps, recruit and retain nursing students from rural and underserved populations, create experimental learning opportunities, and to develop and implement a sustainability plan for ongoing clinical experiences for student nurses.
The university is expected to break ground soon on construction of a new School of Nursing and Health Professions building on the campus.
