A Murray State alumnus is experiencing his first Olympic Games in Paris.

Former Murray State rifle team member Ivan Roe is with Team USA for the 2024 Summer Olympic Games in Paris.

Roe was a 7-time All-American for Murray State from 2014-17. He currently serves as a sergeant in the U.S. Army in their Marksmanship Unit.

After three tries, Roe earned a position on Team USA by winning both smallbore and air rifle competitions in the trials in a field of 77 competitors.

Roe made his Olympic debut in Paris on Saturday in the mixed team 10 meter air rifle event. Roe and Sagen Maddalena placed 18th overall in qualifying. A Chinese team held off South Korea to win the first gold medal awarded in the Games.

On Sunday in the 10-meter men's air rifle qualifying round, Roe placed 35th overall in a field of 49 competitors. The top eight competitors advanced from the qualification round to the medal final to be held Monday.

Coming up on Wednesday, Roe will attempt to qualify in his third event, the 50 meter rifle.
