James Mills has tossed his hat in the ring for McCracken District Judge.
Mills, the First Assistant Commonwealth's Attorney, announced his candidacy on Thursday, once again seeking the seat on the bench. Mills spent eight years with the Department for Public Advocacy as a trial attorney before spending another eight years in the role of prosecutor for the McCracken County Attorney's Office and the Commonwealth's Attorney's Office. He is also an adjunct professor at WKCTC teaching criminal justice.
Mills said in his announcement, "My experience as both a prosecutor and defense attorney has prepared me to be a district judge. District Court is where everyday people interact with the court system. They deserve a judge who is experienced, fair but firm, with a heart for public service. Most of all, the people deserve a judge who will work hard to keep our community safe."
Mills is seeking to fill the vacancy left by the passing of Judge Chris Hollowell. Hollowell narrowly defeated Mills in the 2022 general election for the seat.
