With tongue firmly in cheek, the Metropolis Police Department is "warning" residents about a wave of addictive items headed for the area.

In a post to social media, Metropolis Police said the addictive items have names like "Thin Mints," "Caramel DeLites," "Peanut Butter Patties," and "Lemonades."

They go on to say that the distributors of the items are "strong, smart, fearless young women." Police advise that you will be drawn in by their positive story and that one box could be all it takes to get you hooked. They said some started with one box, but that was the gateway to stashing boxes in your freezer.

Metropolis officers added that they have set up a drop-off for the "Girl Scout Cookies" and promise to dispose of them.

Cookie sales begin in the area on Saturday.

Metropolis Police statement:

"The Metropolis Police Department has received reports that highly addictive substances will soon be circulating in our area. These substances go by names like "Thin Mints," "Caramel DeLites," "Peanut Butter Patties," and "Lemonades."

These substances are distributed by strong, smart, fearless young women who will lure you in with their good-cause story and get you hooked. Many people start with just one box, but one turns into two, two turns into five, and the next thing you know, you're hiding your stash in your freezer.

We want the community to know that we are here for you. We have set up a drop-off location for these "Girl Scout Cookies" at the Metropolis Police Department, where our officers can dispose of them safely."
