On Thursday, Fort Campbell unveiled its monument for nine fallen soldiers who died in a helicopter training crash last year in Trigg County.
The 101st Airborne Division dedicated the monument to the soldiers nicknamed "The Dustoff 9" at a ceremony on the base's Memorial Row as about 300 family members, friends, and fellow soldiers looked on.
The nine “Screaming Eagles” were killed during a nighttime training mission March 29, 2023, when their Blackhawk medivac helicopters collided near Lake Barkley State Park Airport.
The granite monument shows each soldiers’ face and name, and a bronze flight helmet sits on a pedestal at the front.
Col. Clint R. Cody, Commander of the 101st Combat Aviation Brigade, was among several who spoke to the crowd, recounting the soldiers’ dedication and service.
Family members placed a yellow rose at the base of the memorial, and other attendees placed tokens of appreciation at the monument.
Four helicopters flew in formation over the gathering to conclude the ceremony.
